What is Sunbeam House Services?
Sunbeam House Services CLG (SHS) is a voluntary organisation, registered as a charity with the Revenue Commissioners, and providing a wide range of services to adults with intellectual disabilities. Sunbeam House Services is registered in Dublin, Registered Number 76504, at the office address of SHS, Southern Cross House, Southern Cross Ind. Estate, Bray, Co. Wicklow. Sunbeam House Services is constituted as a company limited by guarantee, and is also a registered housing association. Referrals are made by the Health Service Executive. SHS is funded by the Health Service Executive, the Department of Education & Skills and voluntary donations.

Meet our Board of Directors
Dawn Leane is Principal Consultant at Leane Leaders, providing corporate training and executive coaching to a wide range of clients. She holds a Master of Business from University College Cork and postgraduate qualifications in Leadership and Organisational Behaviour.
Dawn has a particular interest in diversity and inclusion and in her last corporate role, she partnered with Trinity College Dublin to design work placements for students and graduates of the Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
As the parent of a child with Downs syndrome, Dawn is a passionate advocate for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities.
Having been Managing Partner of a mid-tier Accountancy and Business Consultancy Practice for 20 years, Austin has significant expertise and experience across a rich portfolio of professional financial, accounting, legal and business related services.
For the past 10 years he has worked as a Mediator and has become one of Irelands leading commercial mediators. He also mediates in the workplace, with families and in the community. He has an adult daughter with Downs Syndrome. He joined the Board of SHS in late 2018.
Kevin Cahill, has over 25 years’ experience in professional services environments and has held leadership roles in national and international law firms.
Initially training as a teacher, Kevin also holds a Masters in Economics from University College Dublin and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Trinity College Dublin.
Paul M. Kinsella, M.A. PDipPMgt, B.A. (Hons) CertHousingSt is a Tenant Liaison Officer with Meath County Council and has local government experience over various departments since 2003.
He holds 2 other directorships in the Housing Association sector and has a passion for contributing towards real housing solutions for vulnerable citizens.
Bernie has over 30 years experience in Finance & Management in the automotive & hospitality industry now devoting most of her time caring for her son.
She holds one other directorship of a charitable organisation, is currently the chairperson & a trustee of the local development group in Avoca involving tidy towns, community development & infrastructure.
Martin Wolohan is Head of Engineering & Environment Health & Safety at Servier Ireland Industry.
International Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Products, with 25 years experience in large scale international Project management and budget control. He is also Chair of Sunbeam's Nominations committee. He is also a qualified Boxing Coach with the Arklow Boxing club, and a member of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association.
David was educated at Gonzaga College SJ and UCD. He qualified as a solicitor and in 1973 became a partner in the law firm now called McCann FitzGerald. David’s practice related mainly to commercial disputes and cases involving the Courts’ ‘equity’ jurisdiction. For many years he headed the firm’s litigation department and was the partner generally responsible for the engagement of trainee lawyers. More recently his work was concentrated on planning dispute strategy and assessment of related risks, professional obligations and professional indemnity insurance.
Following his retirement as a partner, he became a consultant to the firm in those areas. David works with a few voluntary organisations.
Helena is Head of the Department of Humanities in Technological University Dublin, Tallaght Campus. Helena has a background in social care and has worked with marginalised groups and individuals for over 30 years.
She has a passionate interest in advocacy, and equality issues. She holds one other directorship of a charitable organisation. She is currently completing her Doctoral research in access to higher education.
Carl Alfvag joined the Board in 2020 and has over 30 years' experience from public sector including many years in the social sector. Carl is originally from Sweden where he joined the Swedish Foreign Service as a young lawyer. Having lived in both Asia and Europe for many years he left the Foreign Service to take up a role as CEO of The Swedish Agency for Disability Policy Co-ordination. During a 9 year mandate he was taking an active part in the negotiations of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Settling in Ireland with his family, he has been working in the Mental Health Commission and is presently Head of Compliance at the National Maternity Hospital. Carl holds one other directorship of a charitable organisation. You might be spotting him in one of the DIY stores in South County Dublin where he is getting stuff for his newly bought house. He claims he will be reborn as a carpenter.
Karen Kelly has over 12 years’ experience in the education sector encompassing: private, public, adult, and vocational education; continuing professional development; project & programme management; e-learning; and international initiatives.
Karen is Head of Learning at Young Social Innovators. She is passionate about education that empowers young people, strengthens youth voice and participation, and develops active local and global citizens for today and the future.
Barbara is a Chartered Accountant, who holds a Professional Diploma in Compliance (ACOI), with over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry.
She is currently employed as the Head of Audit & Risk in National Asset Management Agency (NAMA). She also hold a BSocSc in Social Science from UCD.”
David Butler is an experienced Company Secretary, and retried Finance Executive. Originally qualifying with a Masters in Engineering (UCD), he changed career, becoming a Chartered Accountant. David has over 40 years’ experience in a variety of senior managerial and finance roles in the private and public sectors: Education, Multi-national Manufacturing etc. He is the immediate past-Secretary and Finance Director of Chartered Accountants Ireland. For the past 20 years he has also been Company Secretary or Board member / Chair of a number of small charities.
David brings his extensive Secretarial experience and professional commitment to serve the SHS Board, in the interests of all of its stakeholders and service users.

Joe Lynch joined Sunbeam House Services in January 2020 as CEO. He has extensive experience in the Community and Voluntary sector having worked with the Parkinson’s Association, Disability Federation of Ireland and Camphill Communities of Ireland. He also brings commercial experience from his time with the Irish Concrete Federation.
Joe is a graduate of NUI Maynooth, UCD, the Open University and National College of Ireland and has a special interest in supported living, social enterprise and decongregation.
Martin Rogers joined Sunbeam in 1996. He moved from a commercial setting to take up the role of Company Accountant in 1996. More recently he held the office of Company Secretary for three years and in early 2019 he was appointed to lead the Finance Team as Financial Controller.
Martin is a Chartered Accountant and a Graduate Member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
Senior Services Manager
Kate Hopkins is a Senior Services Manager, having previously worked in Mental Health Services in the UK and Ireland. Kate has responsibility for a mix of Day Service, Residential and Respite Service locations. Her client group comprises of adults with complex needs as well as elderly clients and clients who require end of life care. Services are delivered under the social care model as well as the clinical/medical model. Kate is a strong believer in empowering clients to make full use of their abilities and to live happy and fulfilled lives. She is also passionate about the provision of high-quality services underpinned by strong staff teams containing a diverse mix of skills and qualifications.
Senior Services Manager
Marie Farrell is a Senior Services Manager and has responsibility for day service and residential locations across Co. Wicklow. Prior to this, Marie was the Manager in the Training Services Bray. Marie has a special interest in creating accessible learning environments that provide training in the core skills for independent Living. Her wide experience of Disability Services in Ireland combined with a drive for progression and best practice in human services is evidenced in a holistic approach to problem solving and change management.
Senior Services Manager
Leona Doyle is a Senior Service Manager responsible for Regional Management of Sunbeam House Services within south Wicklow. Leona has extensive experience within this area and proudly strives to ensure that all clients are empowered to live their lives to their full potential with dignity, equity and respect. Leona is the organisational representative for a number of external committees and working groups, such as the HSE New Directions Working Group and the HSE Central Respite Referrals Committee.

Senior Quality, Compliance and Training Manager (Acting)
Denise specialises in quality improvement systems and processes in accordance with national legislation and best practice. Denise's team consists of Personal Planning Co-ordinator, Health and Safety; Staff training; internal auditing; complaints management; and NIMS data processing.
Denise believes the focus for her and her team is to continually develop, innovate and improve services to ensure our clients are safe and provided with the best possible care, while also ensuring compliance with governing legislation is met consistently and to a high standard. Denise previously worked in the educational sector.
Senior Services Manager
James Traynor is a Senior Service Manager. James has worked for 15 years in human services, specifically providing supports to people with intellectual disabilities. Within Sunbeam, James has responsibility in day, and residential services and has a particular interest in developing supported self-directed living and home supports. James works with CSMs and staff with regards to decongregation of services which has been meaningful learning for the organisation. Ensuring our clients have appropriate access to a range of Multi-Disciplinary Team supports is a focus for James.

Senior HR Manager
Mark Cantwell is an HR professional with 25 plus years of experience in HR Operations, Employee Relations HR Project Management and Organisation Capability Management. In addition, he has experience in Environmental Health and Safety Management and Auditing.
He has worked in Ireland, UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia, and has led HR and Project teams in each of these regions. This experience has included healthcare manufacturing, ICT manufacturing, Telecoms Managed Services, and Social Care Service sectors. He is strongly interested in teamwork development and leadership development in all elements of an organisation and is an advocate for wellbeing at work.
