What is Sunbeam House Services?


Sunbeam House Services CLG (SHS) is a voluntary organisation, registered as a charity with the Revenue Commissioners, and providing a wide range of services to adults with intellectual disabilities. Sunbeam House Services is registered in Dublin, Registered Number 76504, at the office address of SHS, Southern Cross House, Southern Cross Ind. Estate, Bray, Co. Wicklow. Sunbeam House Services is constituted as a company limited by guarantee, and is also a registered housing association. Referrals are made by the Health Service Executive. SHS is funded by the Health Service Executive, the Department of Education & Skills and voluntary donations.

Meet our Board of Directors


  • John Downey (Chairperson)

    Senior Business Consultant and Investor with over 25 years’ experience in managing and developing SME's across the Health Care, IT and Hospitality Sectors. I have three children and I have been involved in coaching at Kilmacud Crokes with the hurlers and footballers over the years. I have volunteered in The Coombe Hospital and the Oesophageal Cancer Fund.
  • Bernie Ivers

    Bernie has over 30 years experience in Finance & Management in the automotive & hospitality industry now devoting most of her time caring for her son. She holds one other directorship of a charitable organisation, is currently the chairperson & a trustee of the local development group in Avoca involving tidy towns, community development & infrastructure.
  • Martin Wolohan

    Martin is Head of Engineering & Environment Health & Safety at Servier Ireland Industry, International Manufacturer of Pharmaceutical Products. He has 25 years experience in large scale international Project management and budget control. He is also Chair of Sunbeam's Nominations committee.
  • David Clarke

    David was educated at Gonzaga College SJ and UCD, qualifying as a solicitor and becoming a partner in McCann FitzGerald heading up the firm’s litigation department. More recently his work concentrated on planning dispute strategy, professional obligations and indemnity insurance. Following his retirement as a partner, he became a consultant to the firm and also works with voluntary organisations.
  • Helena Doody

    Helena is Head of the Department of Humanities in Technological University Dublin, Tallaght Campus. She has a background in social care working with marginalised groups and individuals for over 30 years. She has a passionate interest in advocacy and equality issues and holds one other directorship of a charitable organisation.
  • Carl Alfvag

    Carl has over 30 years experience in the public and social sectors. Originally from Sweden, he joined the Swedish Foreign Service as a young lawyer. He then took up a role as CEO of The Swedish Agency for Disability Policy Co-ordination, activelyinvolved in negotiations of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. He worked in the Mental Health Commission and presently is Head of Compliance at the National Maternity Hospital.
  • Karen Kelly

    Karen has over 12 years experience in the education sector encompassing: continuing professional development; project & programme management; e-learning; international initiatives. Karen is Head of Learning at Young Social Innovators. She is passionate about education that empowers young people and develops active local and global citizens for today and the future.
  • Miles Williams

    Miles works as the Group Risk Accountant for Irish Continental Group, providing internal audit and assurance services for the Group. With five years of experience in internal and external audit and risk management, he is passionate about finance and good governance. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant at PwC South Africa, he moved to Ireland in 2020 to increase the breadth of his skills and talents. The scope of his audit experience is in consumer products, transport and charities.
  • Teresa McNally
    Teresa McNally RGN, BSc, MSc, FFNMRCSI

    Teresa McNally is a registered nurse with over 20 years’ experience in the health and social care sector. She is currently is a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Advisory Group on Integrating the Health and Care Workforce and is Chairperson of the Disability and Community Care Sub Committee with Home and Community Care Ireland (HCCI). Teresa holds an MSc in Healthcare Ethics and Law and has a passion for equality, human rights, governance and strategic leadership and development.

  • David Butler

    David is a Company Secretary and retired Finance Executive with 20 years experience in the charity sector. Originally qualifying with a Masters in Engineering (UCD), he changed career, becoming a Chartered Accountant. David has over 40 years’ experience in a variety of senior managerial and finance roles. He was the Secretary and Finance Director of Chartered Accountants Ireland.

  • Meet our Senior Management Team


    • John McCormack
      INTERIM CEO

      John served as CEO of the Irish Cancer Society from 2002 to 2017, providing free patient care services for people affected by cancer and funding cancer research in Ireland. Through John’s leadership, the Society successfully lobbied for lifesaving changes in the Irish cancer landscape including National Cancer Strategies; rollout of vital cancer screening; the HPV vaccine; and the workplace smoking ban etc. John developed Daffodil Centres, a Volunteer Driver Service and the We Can Quit programme.
    • Paul Holmes
      FINANCIAL CONTROLLER

      Paul joined Sunbeam house services in February 2023 as our Financial Controller leading the Finance team . Paul is a qualified Certified Public Account (CPA) who brings his wealth of knowledge from his senior leadership roles within other Section 38 and Section 39 organisations. Paul has also worked in the private sector having worked in Financial Services, Fintech, and Community Pharmacy.
    • Kate Hopkins
      SENIOR SERVICES MANAGER

      Kate previously worked in Mental Health Services in the UK and Ireland. Kate has responsibility for a mix of Day Service, Residential and Respite Service locations. Kate is a strong believer in empowering clients to make full use of their abilities and to live happy and fulfilled lives. She is also passionate about the provision of high-quality services underpinned by strong staff teams containing a diverse mix of skills and qualifications.
    • Stephen Kearns
      SENIOR SERVICES MANAGER

      Stephen has extensive experience as both a frontline Community Support Worker (CSW) and then as a Client Services Manager (CSM) providing him with a firm knowledge of both strategic and day-to-day workings of SHS. Stephen is a firm believer in prioritising clients and is passionate about providing them with the necessary tools to live an independent life to the best of their ability in a safe, happy and healthy environment.
    • Leona Doyle
      SENIOR SERVICES MANAGER

      Leona has extensive experience within the disability sector and proudly strives to ensure that all clients are empowered to live their lives to their full potential with dignity, equity and respect. Leona is the organisational representative for a number of external committees and working groups, such as the HSE New Directions Working Group and the HSE Central Respite Referrals Committee.
    • Marc Cantwell
      SENIOR HR MANAGER

      Mark has over 25 years of experience in HR Operations, Employee Relations HR Project Management and Organisation Capability Management. In addition, he has experience in Environmental Health and Safety Management and Auditing. He is strongly interested in teamwork development and leadership development in all elements of an organisation and is an advocate for wellbeing at work.
    • Denise Commons
      SENIOR QUALITY, COMPLIANCE AND TRAINING MANAGER (ACTING)

      Denise specialises in quality improvement systems and processes in accordance with national legislation and best practice. Denise believes the focus for her and her team is to continually develop, innovate and improve services to ensure our clients are safe and provided with the best possible care, while also ensuring compliance with governing legislation is met consistently and to a high standard.
    • Isabelle Napoleao
      SENIOR MANAGER

      Isabelle is a Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID) with senior management experience, having worked in both clinical healthcare and community settings. Isabelle comes to SHS with over 15 years’ experience in the healthcare sector, including the areas of intellectual and physical disabilities.
